Weekend Warm-Up

Weekend Warm-Up
By Allan Olson
The weekend weather was everything an outdoor enthusiast asked for – little wind, warm temperatures and no rain or snow, yet for some reason, I spent more time indoors than out. Saturday morning the kids and I headed to a dog house building that I was informed of earlier in the week. I wanted the photos for the paper and the kids wanted to be build their mutt a home – which it was unlikely that he would ever use. However, we will never know because the date I was given was wrong and it was on Sunday instead and I knew by the time frame that it wouldn’t work for us. So we took the opportunity to capture some scenery shots and even stumbled across a pheasant – which my co-photographer hurried his shot and only captured one usable image.
The rest of the afternoon was spent at home; the kids enjoyed the day outside while I for some reason was tired after a long week and tried taking a nap while they enjoyed the sunny weather. Saturday evening was more of the same for me – enjoying a leisurely evening reading my book. I had intended to have the kids get their rooms cleaned again – especially the girls, but after a marathon cleaning on Friday evening where we cleaned the upstairs and the entryway that had been collecting mud I never did issue the edict to get their room clean.
Sunday morning I managed to sleep in until 7:30 a.m.- it felt nice to be able to get some extra shut-eye but even more enjoyable was watching a show in my room without anyone else bothering me – at least until about 8:30 when Marcus and Alivia started bouncing the soccer ball outside our bedroom window. Since they were outside, the weather was nice and they weren’t fighting in the house, I simply turned the volume up a little louder instead of asking them to go away from my window.
The plans for the rest of the day was a trip into Bemidji for my wife to do another dress fitting and then on to Bena for the afternoon for a photo shoot with a senior. The cards were finally aligned to get this shot done as the weather was perfect and the schedules matched up to work. We spent a little over two hours doing the photos and reviewing them with the client before heading home to get supper made for the family. My wife made the meatballs while I cleaned up the kitchen instead of calling the kids in to do the work as normal as they were enjoying the back yard throwing the soccer ball at each other.
After supper, it was time for kids to get ready for bed and I worked on some stuff for the paper until bedtime.
Our plans for the weekend was greatly different than originally planned as we had initially planned to do some work in our kitchen, moving some appliances and possibly removing a couple walls that need some insulating and overall replacement. My oldest brother was planning to come and help with this project but their schedule kept changing and so did ours, so I let him that it would need to be re-scheduled for a later date. The kids were disappointed as that meant they wouldn’t be playing with their cousins this weekend, but I was okay with it as I really wasn’t ready for the mess yet or the expense of putting it back together.
This Saturday, is our annual spring ditch cleaning between Park Rapids and Menahga and with my wife in the middle of prom season, it looks like the kids and I will be on our own this weekend. After the ditch cleaning we will be out searching for some geocaches, likely with a group of others who will also be helping with the cleaning.
Please remember to watch out for the buses that are carrying our most precious cargo. Also snap a photo or two to preserve a lifetime of memories. Thanks for reading, and have a great week! Feel free to drop me a line at cltimes1@arvig.net or stop by the office for a visit.
