A Windy Weekend

By Allan Olson
For some reason the weekend plans of sleeping late and enjoying the great outdoors were all false delusions of grandeur as I didn’t sleep in past 7 a.m. either day, waking much earlier than the hopeful 8:30 – 9 a.m. like I had foolishly thought I might achieve.
Saturday morning my wife headed off to work and then a few hours later I also headed in for a meeting. The plans for the weekend outside were chased away by the wind machine that recently had its switch broken and stuck on full blast and on.
Prior to heading to work, I took it upon myself to get some laundry folded, forcing the kids away from their television making them put away clothes and doing some general cleaning up after themselves. I had a productive morning but certainly not one of fun.
Abigail, petting Lily (Nik's pony) with her newborn filly - "Lady" nearby.
Saturday evening we made the trek westward to the big town of Bagley to visit the kids pony as one of them had a new filly on April 1. Like any new born baby it wasn’t too eager to be separated from her mother and wasn’t too keen on intruders. However, the kids were able to give her some attention along with all of the other pony critters at the farm for a brief period of time, but due to the broken wind machine and the cool spring temperatures our visit to the farm was also short.
Sunday – the day of rest, I finally finished my book that I’ve been working on for over two weeks, that afternoon I was scheduled to ta
ke some senior photos on location but that didn’t work out and instead we spent the time visiting before finally heading out. Prior to our departure my wife’s brother and his wife had dropped off three more kids at the house with our niece who was there for the weekend while they took care of some shopping. My wife suggested instead of hurrying back to our house with seven kids, under the age of 13, that maybe we should have an evening meal together with her brother and his wife. I thought about it momentarily and agreed and she gave them a call and they were up for it.
After our meal, they continued their shopping and we headed back home after a quick stop for a few provisions for the house.  At home we enjoyed a little time with the youngest two kids that were visiting before their parents arrived to bring them home.
The rest of the evening was spent playing a couple games of rummy, watching a little television before finally calling it a weekend.
Earlier in the week, the battle at the house was getting children to clean their messy rooms and the rest of the areas they dwell in and are quick to make a mess and slow to clean, which is always a battle with a house full of rowdy children. Someday – hopefully sooner than later they will learn that it is much faster to clean up after themselves at the time rather than waiting until it is a larger mess.
Plans for this weekend, might include a little demo work in the kitchen and some weekend guests arriving on Friday night. It should be a fun time, as long as those involved in the demo work don’t get too carried away.
Please remember to watch out for the buses that are carrying our most precious cargo. Also snap a photo or two to preserve a lifetime of memories. Thanks for reading, and have a great week! Feel free to drop me a line at cltimes1@arvig.net or stop by the office for a visit.
