A Trip to Target Field

Image
Target Field We asked another fan to snap a family photo of us at Target Field, and he was quick to oblige. We thank him for helping us capture this memory. By Allan Olson This week was busy, with four days of work, followed by a few days of playing, my week was planned long in advance I knew the first three days of the normal week would be spent running, so I spent Sunday preparing for that getting much of the work done in advance for the paper. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday were all long days on the job, but Thursday was cut short as we had an important family outing. Our destination Thursday was Target Field, finally after all these years I was finally going to visit the home of the Minnesota Twins right during the height of their worst season in baseball history. Their record didn’t matter much to me, win or lose mattered only marginally more, but we were given tickets to the game and we were going, rain or shine. On Thursday, we arrived at the hotel early enough to ...

Another Broken Bone

Image
Another Broken Bone By Allan Olson Yes, it happened again, of all times at the end of the school year with field trips pending and bike rides planned for the summer and then all of a sudden plans changed. On Friday night when I finally arrived home, I went to kick Abigail out of my room when I learned that her foot was hurting. Her mom had her put it up until I got home and Abigail didn’t seem to be in any real pain and then we examined a little further.   My wife and I discussed and felt that it is bad enough that it should be examined, I volunteered to drive her in this time, even though I had just got home, but since this is one of those areas that have over the years been “her department” she decided to take her in. ot when looking at it didn’t appear to be that swollen until you touched it and compared it to her “non-injured foot.” A trip to the ER and X-rays determined that she did indeed have a broken foot, her fourth and fifth metatarsal to be exact. They sent he...

Mother’s Day Weekend

Mother’s Day Weekend By Allan Olson It’s crazy to think about it but 2016 is nearly half over, with the month of May upon us and another school year nearly completed, summer fast approaching, I’m not sure what I did with all that time. Alivia "helping" her Grandpa at the sawmill. This last weekend we were on the road and for the first time in many years I found myself at my parent’s home for Mother’s day. My wife and I discussed the plans early in the week, but I was hesitant to make any plans that she wasn’t a part of because it was Mother’s day and perhaps she just wanted to do something else. However, in the end we hit the road north on Saturday morning. That day, I woke up at the bright early time of 6 a.m. just like any other day, my brother had plans to be at my folks by 9:30 a.m. and if we were going to make it by then, we needed to get moving early. With that idea in mind, I woke the kids up about the same time as usual for a school day and they started ...

Disconnected and Unexpected

Disconnected and Unexpected By Allan Olson A Geocache in the travel center in Fargo. The day was here, I had promised my niece that I would take her to Fargo to check out a school that more closely aligned in what she wanted for her future, the debate since then was with or without kids, in the end, it was a kid free trip, as my wife is busy with prom season and couldn’t really take the time away from her office.   So my niece made the arrangements and scheduled her appointment. The evening prior I decided to do something I hadn’t in almost a year – disconnect the sync on my email with my phone. I figured that if I had my email going, I would be checking it and I wanted to be work free for the day. After her appointment we were going to check some areas for an apartment and then spend the rest of the day geocaching all the way home when I figured we would arrive back between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Everything was going to plan, we did some geocaching found two really well ...
