Summer Heat

Summer Heat
By Allan Olson
Another crazy, hot and busy summer week has flown by and the dog days of summer are almost here. Unfortunately that also means for those of us in the north country that we will soon be treated to days of much cooler temperatures and while I wouldn’t mind a slight temperature dip, I’m certainly not advocating for the return of sub-zero temperatures any time soon.
The summer days of the weekend for myself was spent largely in town on Saturday covering the many festivities of Summer Fest. The day kicked off with the parade and was filled for the next several hours of jam packed entertainment and things to take photos of.  The evening found me heading home to enjoy the remainder of the day with my family – where we largely did little or nothing.
Sunday morning found us up and out of the house by 7 a.m. – not the leisurely day I was originally planning but rather a productive day. We headed north to pick up a new china cabinet for our home – it will no longer fit in another family member’s home so we decided it will make a nice addition to our home. We arrived at the location at 9 a.m. and began the process of helping unpack some of the items in it and moving it out to the trailer.  The beast of a cabinet was extremely heavy and the process of moving it was slow and careful as to not tip it or drop it on someone’s feet or fingers. The whole process of moving the cabinet and its base along with a couple other items took a little over two hours. We headed further west for a visit with my parents where I also picked up a boat motor. We departed for home about 2 p.m. after a quick meal and short visit with my parents.
We managed to get the contents of the trailer home safely and thankfully we had no transportation issues in the process. Unfortunately – this was only half the battle as we had two less sets of arms to help us with getting the cabinets in the house and up the stairs. We enlisted the help of the kids and four of us managed to get it up the stairs. Of course we were all dripping with sweat from the heat and needed time to cool off after all of that work.  I worked on a couple of other projects in the interim and soon it was time for baseball at Ferris Park.
We finally got back home again and in the interim the old cabinet was cleaned out and ready to be moved to its new location. So we set back to work again, we dusted and cleaned the new cabinet, hauled some other dishes out of another older cabinet that is getting eliminated and prepared for the new one to get in place. This was much easier said than done and it literally involved all six of us having some role in making sure we didn’t drop it. Susan and Nikolai lifted on one end, Abigail and Alivia each had different roles and Marcus helped me on another end and in the end we succeeded in getting it all put back together in one piece.
The rest of the time was spent putting some dishes away before finally calling it quits for the evening.
This weekend I hope to successfully launch my boat for the first time and preparing for a couple upcoming events/trips.
I hope everyone enjoys their summer vacation and is able to spend some time on the lake and in the woods. Thanks to everyone for reading, and as always, please be safe while enjoying your favorite outdoor recreational activity and on the lakes. Remember to take pictures to preserve a lifetime of memories. Thanks for reading, and have a great week!
