Busy Times

Busy Times
Marcus and I enjoyed a walk in the Hobson Forest on
Sunday afternoon. We found the two geocaches we were in

search of and the fresh air was - refreshing.

As we launch into fall this week with the cooler temperatures projected once again after we enjoyed a two week reprieve from the fall temperatures the schedule has yet to slow down for this family. We didn’t plan any long geocaching adventures this weekend – primarily because we already had our schedule busy without it.
Friday night the kids and I attended another Legacy program in Cass Lake and enjoyed some tasty treats afterwards, the music was good, but the highlight of the evening was someone who is clearly a kid at heart trying to use my son’s rubber band to shoot a spitball at me. I saw him getting it ready but didn’t realize it was at me until afterwards when Nikolai informed me that he shot it at me but missed by a longshot. Afterwards we tried to make it to the Leech Lake Tribal College Basketball Black on White game but didn’t get there in time as the game was over.
On Saturday – it was back to Cass Lake, Nikolai had to finish his Firearms Safety Certification Course with the field day at the Gordy Buchanan Gun Range. He had his coursework earlier in the week and did very well on his final exam and subsequently must’ve done well on his firearms training as he passed the class.
Saturday morning started out a little rough for family as we lost Abigail’s pet bunny Sandy. He was discovered in his cage by Nikolai not moving. Abigail was very sad and we have promised her that we will get her a new bunny.
However, she didn’t let her sadness get in the way as she had a job to do. The Cass Lake-Bena third grade class is working on selling raffle tickets and more to raise funds for a trip to the State Capitol. So armed with a bunch of raffle tickets we sat down at Teal’s Market on Saturday morning for three hours and sold nearly every ticket we had. I informed her that I wasn’t going to do the work for her, I gave her the initial information that she needed to reach her customers and she excelled. By the end of the three hours she had learned that some of her potential customers weren’t able to help but others generously donated. It was a good lesson for an 8-year old.
We ended up selling the rest of her tickets before we left for home and on Monday she turned in all her hard earned money along with the ticket stubs to her teachers.
Saturday afternoon we had another plan, cleaning. This Sunday we are having a birthday party for Alivia and we needed some cleaning and re-organizing done. We worked on different tasks throughout the day and slept in on Sunday (until 8 a.m.) and then it was back to cleaning. That afternoon we were taking a break and I couldn’t stand being in the house any longer on such a nice day. I decided it was time for a walk in the Hobson Forest – there were two geocaches left to find in that forest that we had yet to get so Marcus and I set out for them. Of course both geocaches were deep in the woods, but thankfully it was all nicely mowed trails and even though it was a mile walk – each way, it was the perfect weather and no ticks or bugs were around to bother us.
In the end Marcus managed to find both caches and we slowly made our way back to the parked vehicle. It really was a nice day to go for a walk.
The rest of the day was spent working on cleaning again.
This week, I’m looking forward to attending the cutting of the Capitol Christmas Tree that will be heading to Washington D.C. from the Chippewa National Forest. The weekend plans I’m sure will be busy with party planning and organizing and visiting with family.

Please be safe while enjoying your favorite outdoor recreational activity and on the lakes, and remember to take pictures to preserve a lifetime of memories. Remember to drive safely, and watch out for those buses carrying our children. Thanks for reading, and have a great week! For more of my columns visit: http://allan-crazykids.blogspot.com.
