Weekend Travels

Weekend Travels

After helping dad drag the yard last week, Alivia enjoyed driving the lawn mower up and down the road for a few minutes.

On the road again… that’s our theme song! This time we weren’t picking up another rabbit or finding a bunch of remote geocaches; instead we were attending a nephew’s birthday party. In all last week was a pretty quiet week at our household, but as usual, the weekend was crazy.
Friday night the kids were picked up by my folks so my wife and I could attend “another working dinner” as she calls them, this time for the annual Cystic Fibrosis dinner. After that event, we decided to take advantage of the opportunity and took in a show. We attended a movie with very few others in attendance, but ironically one individual I know from Cass Lake was also there. After the movie we contemplated going for dessert, but it was getting late and it had been a long day already, and we had to head north in the morning.
In the morning, we met my niece on location to take some more senior photos, but the windy, damp weather coupled with the cooler air along the river made for a very short session. As long as we were there, I also did some geocache maintenance and discovered that a cache I had hidden at that location had disappeared, so I found a small container in the van and replaced it.
After the photo shoot we did some more maintenance on the geocaches we had placed around that area, then made our way over to my folks’ place where the kids were busy playing with their cousins. Along the way, I did more maintenance on my hidden caches. To my dismay, I found that someone had walked off with an ammo can I had stashed on our hunting land. I would have guessed that one would be safe for years, but I was wrong. We attended the birthday party that evening and visited with family, even playing a game or two of Euchre.
We attended church with my parents on Sunday morning before pointing the van toward home, since one of the kids had homework to catch up on, and I had some things to clean up in the yard. Once home, Nikolai and I cleaned up the lawn furniture, putting it in storage in a shed to hopefully protect it from the coming snow and freezing rain. That night we dined on leftovers, and everyone hit the sack early, all tuckered out from another weekend on the go.
I have a couple ideas for this weekend, but I’m not quite sure how they will pan out yet. Whatever we do, I hope we will have some time to spend in the great outdoors before the real cold air moves in and makes its presence known.
Please be safe while enjoying your favorite outdoor recreational activity and on the lakes, and remember to take pictures to preserve a lifetime of memories. Remember to drive safely, and watch out for those buses carrying our children. Thanks for reading, and have a great week! For more of my columns visit: http://allan-crazykids.blogspot.com.
