Robotics and Home

My little great nephew and his parents were our house guests on Sunday night. He recently celebrated his first birthday and is slowly taking a liking to his crazy great uncle a little more – depending on his mood, of course, just like any one of this age.

This past weekend was mostly spent cleaning up my computer, getting rid of many of the extra files I’ve accumulated over the last seven years, and on Sunday just hanging out at home.
I was on the road Friday evening for another BCLB Bears wrestling meet at Blackduck; unfortunately, the home team lost this time by just a few points. I managed to arrive back at home just in time for a very late evening meal of meatloaf. Mmmm… it was amazing. It was nice to be able to sit down and have a meal with the family – that’s something that’s hard to do when school and work schedules get busy.
On Saturday morning Nikolai and I were on the road early to attend the 2019 Robotics Game Reveal in Nevis. That event, combined with the later potluck meal for the local Robotics teams back at CLB pretty much took care of the day. I spent more time Saturday evening going over my files and doing some much needed purging.
When Sunday morning rolled around, it finally happened – I slept in. It was entirely by accident this time, but I managed to not get out of bed until after 9:30 – to me and most other people, that is sleeping in. Still, I worked in the quiet house until about 12:30 before I saw the whites of anyone else’s eyes. It’s not that they all slept until then, they just didn’t come out of hiding. Of course, the reason they stay hiding is that they knew there was homework and housework to do, and once their presence was known, it was time to go to work.
We did get them working on a few things, and in the meantime I decided we needed something to eat. I volunteered to fry the bacon and sausage while my wife did the eggs. It was 2 p.m. before everything was put together, just a little late to call it a brunch.
Thankfully, no home improvement projects popped up this weekend. The last one got done last week, although the hole in the wall still needs some mud and tape to get the wall looking back to normal.
I had planned to go out and doing something on Sunday, but as things turned out I just didn’t feel like leaving home. Of course, if someone had called and asked if I wanted to go fishing or geocaching, it’s very likely I would have all of a sudden felt like leaving the house.
Instead I spent the majority of Sunday purging files or doing some work for this week’s publication. That evening my niece and her fiancĂ©e showed up with their son. They had an appointment nearby on Monday morning and decided that it would be wise to beat the ice storm by staying at our house.
That evening my niece and I beat my wife and Nikolai in a game of Euchre, and we enjoyed leftover meatloaf for a late supper.
On Jan. 1, the three of the kids and I, along with a couple of friends kids attended the Okie Dokie Brothers Concert at the Reif Center in Grand Rapids, it was a great time and we all enjoyed the program.
In all it was a pretty uneventful weekend. Currently there is nothing on tap for this weekend, either – something of a rarity for us. I know the weekends after this one are going to be busy, and it would probably be a good thing to just relax at home, but the odds of me spending two straight weekends in the house are pretty low, so I guess I will leave my itinerary status at: To Be Determined.
