There’s no place like home

Cut: Alivia started getting the lawn mowed this week, but the battery didn’t hold its charge, so I will have to remember to bring home a new battery before the lawn needs mowing again.

This weekend was a good one to stay at home. So much so that I only left the home base once – to watch some of the dancers and drummers at the State Drum and Dance Competition held at CL-B High School on Saturday. That resulted in a rather boring weekend.
On Friday evening I told the kids we wanted to sleep in the next morning, so do not enter our room prior to 9 a.m. They almost made it. Marcus and Alivia came in at 8:45, looking for something and letting us know that it was almost 9:00. Since it was that close, I didn’t get crabby at them.
I got up and found something for breakfast, did some reading, and assigned some chores. Aside from that, I did little until I left the house to go to the school. I was back home a few hours later, armed with snacks for a movie night with the family. On the big screen that evening my wife selected “Bob the Butler,” which was a ridiculously stupid movie – perfect for an evening laugh.
Sunday proved to be another perfect day to stay home. Due to the cold, wet spring conditions, the kids didn’t even venture outside. Heck, the dog really showed little interest in leaving the house. Once again, the kids left us alone until about 9 a.m., at which time I got up to make eggs for those who wanted. I took the next hour or so to finish watching a movie I had fallen asleep to the night prior (one that was not rated for family entertainment, so it was a good thing it wasn’t chosen for the family movie).
The morning went by and aside from assigning occasional jobs or refereeing fights, it was all pretty quiet. The afternoon was spent assigning more tasks for kids (rather, explaining that they hadn’t finish the jobs originally assigned). For supper – my wife made chicken gravy and Nikolai made biscuits. It was a great meal, one of those that require restraint from eating the whole pot.
This week we finally booked and paid for one state park trip for this summer. We selected Big Stone Lake State Park, right on the Minnesota/South Dakota border. Our summer calendar is already so filled that we had a difficulty planning even this one trip. We have some plans that might include an overnight or day trip a time or two, but ultimately we will have to see how things pan out.
If the weather had been nice this past weekend, we would’ve spent some time in the boat chasing some fish, but it wasn’t meant to be. Hopefully next weekend we will have a chance to give that a try, but we are also in discussion about one full day of geocaching on either Saturday or Sunday, but that, too, is weather dependent.
Readers, I hope your weekend was spent doing whatever it is that makes you happy, indoors or out in the rain.

Please remember to watch out for the buses that are carrying our most precious cargo. Also, snap a photo or two to preserve a lifetime of memories. Thanks for reading, and have a great week! Feel free to drop me a line at cltimes1@arvig.net or stop by the office for a visit.
