Weekend Filming

Weekend Filming
By Allan Olson
Marcus and Alivia were being filmed geocaching by Lakeland Tv Common Ground Producer on Geocaching somewhere on a rural road between Laporte and Walker.
As with most weekends, the time went by in a blur, much to the disappointment of Nikolai, we didn’t make it back out on the boat fishing yet, but hopefully I will find some evening this week to head out on the big water.
Saturday morning, we met Lakeland Tv Common Ground Producer Scott Knudson to do some filming about geocaching for a future show. The morning travels started with right outside their studio filming the kids finding a geocache, we then moved on to downtown Bemidji for a unique cache, headed over east of Laporte to finally locate one that we hadn’t found before and we ended the filming on the shores of Leech Lake with us finding a very tricky cache. I of course wasn’t done, I had a whole list of caches that had potential to show something different about geocaching, but sadly he had enough filming for now and we parted ways, it was probably a good thing or I would’ve had him tied up for a few more hours, as I had stops in Cass Lake and Bena planned out. It will be exciting to see how this turns out next spring when it’s completed and aired.
As we rolled back through Cass Lake, we dropped Abigail off at a birthday party and headed north for home. I should’ve taken the time then to do some work, but the allergy meds were kicking in and I felt tired and decided a nap was in order. The next time I woke up, it was nearly 5 p.m., I was supposed to be heading back to get Abigail from the birthday party at 5. So I got moving and headed to get her. Of course, when I arrived she wasn’t ready to go home, but she did anyway.  That evening, we spent some time watching a movie with the family in the nice cool basement before heading to bed.
Sunday, I tried staying in bed as long as I could but finally decided to get up and figure out something to eat. I really had a craving for pancakes for some reason, so I found a recipe and using the handy online serving tool I had it compute the necessary amount of ingredients for the large family. I called Marcus who is usually willing to help cook something and he quickly agreed to do the job. The only assistance I offered him was getting the needed ingredients out and helped the stirring a little bit and I fried up the last two pans as he was distracted by eating. It was a great way to kick off the day with a meal of pancakes, sausage, perhaps next time; we might add bacon or hash browns to the meal.
A full belly, called for an early morning nap, as those pesky allergies were really bothering me this weekend, a couple hours later, I decided to work on the boat. I have some minor leak issues that needed to be fixed, it doesn’t stop the boat from being operational, but the water does eventually get higher in the boat. To solve this problem I was recommended a couple things, one of those an epoxy, I really should’ve just went with my gut on this as I’ve never gotten along with epoxy and this experience was no different. The simple directions said, “mix equal parts” no perhaps I should’ve used a measuring instrument of some sort but I just guessed and called it close, in the end my whole experiment was a failure as I managed to only get a little of it smeared on the bottom of the boat. Getting myself cleaned up from this mess, was also a whole lot of work for no result. Next up, a non-epoxy sealer preferably something I can spray on.
With the cleanup process done, I decided to watch some screen and informed the kids that next on the days agenda, was going swimming. We headed to the beach about 5 p.m. and discovered that our quiet little swimming spot was sure busy for such a secluded location. We have seen more people in that spot this last year than the last two years combined. The kids weren’t bothered by the extra people and charged into the water anyway. A short while later, they took off in their boats (I guess we scared them off) and I decided to join the kids for some fun. In all we spent about an hour in the water and during that time another boat full of people arrived for some swimming, but we outlasted them to before we finally headed home.
Supper that evening was homemade pizza, cooked on the waffle iron. It was very delicious and filling and the best part of it was, I didn’t help cook and there was leftovers for me for work. Sadly, I failed to grab the leftovers before leaving the house early Monday morning and since no one else was awake, nobody helped remind me, although it’s likely they wouldn’t have anyway.
This weekend, will be busy with Summer Fest celebration, but hopefully this week we will still find some time for canoeing, boating, swimming, fishing or perhaps all of those.

Enjoy your summer, and be sure to snap a photo or two to preserve a lifetime of memories. Thanks for reading, and have a great week! Feel free to drop me a line at cltimes1@arvig.net or stop by the office for a visit. To our Law Enforcement officers and other emergency personnel, be safe, and thank you for all that you do!
