Changes

Changes in life can be hard on anyone, some changes are for the better and others are not always beneficial.
The biggest changes in our life this year is the leap into homeowner ship. This meant we could no longer call our reliable land lord to fix something. We’ve had to fix several things since we’ve moved in to our new dwellings and more will be fixed or changed as time and of course the dollar allows.
This change also resulted in a change of schools. We left Nikolai in his former school when we moved last spring because we didn’t feel it was right to make him switch schools. So we made the sacrifice and drove him to our former home so he could catch his same bus with his same friends to attend his same school.
We informed him prior to the end of the last school year that he would not be going to that school again. Regardless of where we sent him, Bemidji, Blackduck or Cass Lake-Bena he would be attending a new school.
As with most things he was accepting of this change, until it occurred.
Coming home from his first full day of school, we learned just how tough it is going to be for a time for him.
This is going to be an adjustment for this usually happy go lucky little “man.”
“Give it time,” we told him. “Give it a chance.”
By week’s end he was feeling a little more optimistic and we’re hoping for continued progress on that department.
Abigail and Marcus on the other hand, were fine with the new surroundings. Since they only had pre-school to compare it too, the new changes weren’t any big deal. On the first full morning, the boys were looking glum and Abigail was excited as could be. After school the twins (yes, Marcus you are still a twin) were happy about the day. Hopefully the excitement doesn’t fade as the year progresses.
Corn Mazing-
A couple weekends ago we ventured into our first corn maze ever near Warroad. A large group of us kids ages 3 -14 and three adults headed into this not really knowing how it was going to go.
I soon plotted how it was going to work for me. I had every intention of going into the maze to get lost. I knew the odds of me finding my way out weren’t that good to begin with and were even slimmer when I led Alivia lead the way.
Being all of three year’s old I thought she did pretty well even if we didn’t get too far into the maze. We walked around going every which direction and if she spotted something familiar (usually a sign posted in the maze) she would say “we’ve been here already,” but we never did figure out how to get to the exit.
Abigail, managed to get lost, although I didn’t know she was lost. I thought she was with her cousin and it turned out she was wandering around by herself until her aunt found her and re-connected with us. I then finally decided that I was done getting lost with my girls and headed out the entrance. We visited the petting zoo, where Alivia had a few tears after she got bit by a little pig. I think the tears were more out of the shock then pain as they wore off soon and they began climbing on the large stacks of straw bales.
Marcus and Nikolai were still in the maze with the rest of the group. When the group finally got out, which seemed like hours later, we enjoyed a tractor ride and the kids were all sad that it was dark and time to go home. The adults weren’t nearly as sad.
The kids of course, wanted to go back the very next day.
In all that Labor Day weekend was fun even if the weather wasn’t. It’s sad to see summer go, but hopefully we will still find some time to enjoy the great outdoors before the weather really turns uncooperative.
Thanks for reading and remember to watch out for the buses. As always feel free to drop us a line and/or a photo and have a great week. For more of my columns visit: http://allan-crazykids.blogspot.com.
